AMY GARDNER - Artistic Director | Choreographer
Canadian choreographer and performer, Amy Gardner, is a multi-faceted artist, striving to merge the concert and commercial world of dance and break boundaries creatively. Amy's professional experience throughout North America and Europe over the past 10 years has shaped her distinct choreographic language, that she aims to integrate with other art forms in order to create unprecedented work. Drawing on her extensive experience on film and having studied acting for the past 4 years, Amy has developed unique directing techniques that give way to evocative and innovative work. Her creative process fuses classical and urban elements, alongside a wide array of structured improvisational tools. She hopes to pair her kinetic sensibility with wit and invention to tell stories worldwide, while staying connected to the 'why' behind every piece.
Throughout her professional career, Amy has maintained close ties to the Alberta dance scene. She is a faculty member with the Edge School for Athletes, where she teaches and helps mentor students seeking professional careers. She also runs independent programs through the YYC Dance Project and the Alberta Ballet and has recently been commissioned by The Young Canadians as a consultant for their training program.
In 2015, Amy launched annoDAM Dance with the intention of creating an umbrella for her choreographic work and a means to and to create work opportunities for emerging and professional dance artists.
